This is an increase of 10.4% over the previous year, according to a new report. The IP5 Statistics Report, published jointly by the EPO, the Japan Patent Office, the Korean Intellectual Property Office, the State Intellectual Property Office of the People's Republic of China, and the United States Patent and Trademark Office, collectively known as the IP5 offices, presents official patent statistics from each office.

The Intellectual Property Agency BERIN awarded two young inventors - participants at the 38th International Fair of Innovation - Makinova 2017, held at the Boris Trajkovski Sports Hall - Skopje from 25-29 October 2017 and on which were presented inventions and papers presented from about 50 inventions in two ctegories - Makinova and Ekonova.
On the 153rd meeting of the Administrative Council of the European Patent Organisation, held in Munich on 10 October 2017 under the chairmanship of Mr Christoph ERNST (DE), elected Mr António CAMPINOS to succeed Mr Benoît BATTISTELLI as President of the European Patent Office (EPO). Mr CAMPINOS' 5-year term will start on 1 July 2018.

The 139th Annual Meeting of the International trademark association INTA 2017 took place In Barcelona (Spain), from 20-24th May 2017 and was attended by almost 11.000 participans (patents and trademarks attorneys) worldwide. The Agency for Intellectual Property BERIN participated on the meeting with four members and one associate: Prof. Dr. Gjorgji Filipov, founder, Dipl. Eng. Liliana Filipova, co-founder, Dipl. Eng. Vanco Damjanski, CEO and Marija Koseska LLM & Dipl. Eng., head of Trademarks department. The organization included also Maja Damjanski, Dipl. Psychologist, counselor for publishing and communications from Skopje and Mr. Ivan Ivanov, associate, from Sofia. BERIN performed Seminar-Workshop for the partners from China and other countries of Far East on 22th May 2017.
BERIN’s patent attorney Bogoljub Ilievski attended the 84th meeting of the Standing Committee for technical and operational activities in the European Patent Organization (EPO) that was held on May 10th, 2017, in Munich (Germany). This Committee has more than 100 members (two members from each member states of the EPO as well as associate members countries of this organisation). The European Patent Office was represented by 26 member delegations headed by three vice-presidents: Dr. Raimund Lutz, MA Gila Minos and Mr. Alberto Casado. The composition of this committee is complemented by a representative of Intellectual Property Office of the EU (EUIPO), World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and European Patent Institute (EPI).
From 23 to 25 April 2017 in Munich (Germany) was held the 82nd General Assembly of the Council of the European Patent Institute, an organization of European patent agents, which has 11,500 members from 38 European countries. The Assembly was attended by 136 delegates, among them four from Macedonia. During this Assemble was elected the new president, Francis Leidern from Belgium, whose vice presidents will be Dr. Barbara Kunic, Slovenia and Dr Haik Fogelsang, Germany. New General Secretay is Roazh Pereira from Portugal.
On March 17th, 2017 in Zagreb was held an introductory event within the regular preparations for the upcoming Аnnual Conference of the International Association of Trademark Owners ( INTA) attended by the BERIN's representative, Mr. Vancho Damjanski.

The first meeting of the Standing Advisory Committee before the EPO (SACEPO) Working Party on Quality took place at the Office in Munich (Germany) on January 17th, 2017. According to the statistics of the United States Patent and Trademark Office, the past 2016 was marked by a rapid growth of patents granted in previous years. The total number of patents granted in 2016 was 334,673 which is an increase of 7,793 or 2.4% over 2015.
2016 marked the 125th anniversary of the Madrid System’s founding treaty, the Madrid Agreement for International registration of trademarks and it is still evolving: projected to reach 1,5 million registrations by 2019.

At the meeting of the EU Competitiveness Council, the UK minister for Intellectual Property has announced that the UK government is proceeding with preparations to ratify the Unified Patent Court Agreement. International filings for patents, trademarks and industrial designs under WIPO-administered intellectual property (IP) systems saw continued strong growth in 2012.
13 March 2013, The EPO's Economic and Scientific Advisory Board (ESAB) has issued a statement with recommendations for improving the patent system, based on the main findings of its 2012 activities. Along with this statement, the ESAB has also published the reports of three workshops it conducted in 2012, namely on patent quality, the role of fees, and patent thickets.
On the 6th and 7th March, within the regular procedure for recertification of implemented quality management system ISO 9001: 2008, audit was conducted by certification body TUV Rheinland.
