From 23 to 25 April 2017 in Munich (Germany) was held the 82nd General Assembly of the Council of the European Patent Institute, an organization of European patent agents, which has 11,500 members from 38 European countries. The Assembly was attended by 136 delegates, among them four from Macedonia. During this Assemble was elected the new president, Francis Leidern from Belgium, whose vice presidents will be Dr. Barbara Kunic, Slovenia and Dr Haik Fogelsang, Germany. New General Secretay is Roazh Pereira from Portugal.
Prof. Dr. Georgi Filipov and Bogoljub Ilievski, Macedonian and European patent agents had the chance to meet lots of their colleagues from Europe and members of the newly elected leadership, i.e. the President of the European Patent Office, Dr. Benoît Battistelli and Vice Presidents Dr. Raymond Lutz and Mr. Zeljko Topic. The Assembly also elected a new Disciplinary Committee. The executive director of BERIN and European patent attorney and Macedonian, Vancho Damjanski, is elected as a new member of this Disciplinary Committee.
The Assembly was adressed by the EPO president, Battistelli, who emphasized the growing number of patents granted by the EPO (40%), making this organization took first place in the organization and productivity in the world. Europe is an exporter of patents and technology in the remaining four global "competitors": US, South Korea, China and Japan.
Most Innovative European company is Philips, and most innovative nation according filed patent applications per capita is Switzerland, followed by the Netherlands, Sweden, Belgium, Finland, Germany, Austria, and the new EU member states, Slovenia is above all, that the 20 seats in Europe. According to the absolute number of applications Germany is ranked third in the world, after the USA and Japan. According to the "strength" of patents, it is in second place, after the United States.
The Assembly adopted the reports of the reporting groups and discussed the issue of restructuring in accordance with technological, social and political changes in the world. The Assembly has scheduled the next session in November to be held in Warsaw (Poland).

Dipl. Eng. Vanco Damjanski, European and Macedonian patent attorney, executive director of the Agency for Intellectual Property "Berin" and dipl. eng. Bogoljub Ilievski, Director of the Patent Department, participated at the European Conference and at the Industrial Property Fair "IP SERVICE WORLD 2018", (26-27. 11, 2018), held for the 9th time in Munich, the headquarters of the European Patent Organization and the German Patent and Trademark Office. Berin's representatives attended 60 lectures, panels and round tables. They had the opportunity to hear and meet Steve Gong (Google), Belinda Gascoyne (IBM), Michael Gollwitzer (Siemens), B.Josuhn-Kadner (General Electric), Markus Bedenbecker (BMW), Benjamin Paul (Osram) and many other service users and eminent experts in the field of industrial property. The conference was attended by 550 patent attorneys who exchanged experiences on industrial property issues and the connection with innovations, industrial trends, software solutions, blockchain, artificial intelligence and intellectual property management. At the Fair for Industrial Property Services, their capacities were presented by 75 exhibitors from 55 countries of the world. "Berin" performed on an independent stand, through presentations and conversations, introducing visitors to the fair and participants at the conference with the services it provides in the field of patents, trademarks and industrial designs. Damjanski and Ilievski held ten meetings with representatives of several companies, as well as with providers of services in the field of industrial property. Berin's special honor was made by Google's director for patents, Steve Gong, who visited the company's stand and held lunch and talked about the challenges that intellectual property anticipates in the near future. The Berin Agency was the sole representative of the fair from the region of Southeastern Europe.

Ms. Maria Kjoseska, MSc, European patent attorney, Ambassador Prof. Dr. Gjorgji Filipov, European patent attorney and Liljana Filipova, dipl. Eng,, European patent attorney participated in the work of the 85th Council of European Patent Attorneys, which was held in Helsinki from 9-11. November 2018. About 200 representatives from the 38 countries signatories to the European Patent Convention took part in the work of the Council. On the first day, a seminar was held on the topic "The latest development in the European Patent Organization", initiated after the start of the mandate of the new EPO president, Antonio Campinos. Unusually, almost all delegates attended the seminar.
The second day was dedicated to the working reports submitted by the Chairman of the Board, the Secretary General, the Treasurer, the Internal Audit Committee, the EPI Finance, the Budget, the EPPS, the OCC, the By-Law, the EPO Finance, Disciplinary and the Committee for Harmonization. Previously, a video speech by the EPO President Dr. Campinos was emitted. After each submitted report questions were asked or the comment was commented on. At the end of the working part, a discussion was held on the topic "The future of our (patent agent’s) profession," where it was debated about the role of artificial intelligence in inventions and in the profession of patent attorneys (Whether the robot could be inventor or holder of a patent right?), but also around the "hot topic" - a small number of patents applications from countries that joined the European Patent Organization later than founder’s countries (with the exception of Slovenia) after 2000. On 11.11.18, an excursion was organized for the delegates in order to get familiar with the cultural, historical and technical and technological achievements of Finland. It is agreed that the next meeting will be held in Sofia in March 2019.

Evgenia Divitarova from SOTU "Gorgi Naumov" from Bitola for the invention "CNC Laser Engraving Machine" (MAKINOVA) and Nada Bakalovska from OSO "Aco Ruskovski" from Berovo for the invention "Cream against burned skin" (ECONOVA) are winners of the traditional money -awards with diplomas (Gold Medals for Youth Creativity), awarded by the Agency for Intellectual Property "Berin". The awards were presented to the young inventors by the Deputy Director of "Berin", dipl. Eng. Bogoljub Ilievski, European and Macedonian Patent Attorney, Delegate to the Council of the European Patent Institute in Munich. Berin congratulated the awarded and expects them with their new projects, which eventually are going to be candidates for Macedonian and European patents.... This year BERIN actively participated in all events related to inventors and inventions, the protection of industrial design and patentable inventions, which took place during MAKINOVA and ECONOVA 2018, (23-28.10.2018), organized by Narodna tehnika (National Techique) of Macedonia and the Union of Inventors and Authors of Technical Improovements of Macedonia (SPATUM-UIATIM). Thus, a member of the Commission for Evaluating the Inventions was a Dipl. Eng., Vanco Damjanski, CEO of the company, a Macedonian and European patent attorney, a delegate and a member of the Disciplinary Commission at the European Patent Institute in Munich... The founder of the company "Berin", the ambassador prof. Dr. Gjorgji Filipov, President of the Association of Inventors of Macedonia (SPATUM- UIATIM), from 2000 to 2005 held a lecture on the topic "Goals of the Inventing Activities and Current Conditions with Patents in Information and Communication Technologies (ICT)". The lecture was dedicated to the jubilees "70 Years of National Technique" and "60 years of the Union of Inventors and Authors of Technical Advancement of Macedonia (UIATIM)". Dr. Gjorgji Filipov kept several hours in reviewing the exhibited inventions, in association with the inventors and the members of the Evaluation Committee, as well as with some members of the Management Team of the National Technique of Macedonia, the President, Mr. Zoran Todorov and Mr. Pere Mitrev.

Exhibition of inventions and new technologies ”Taiwan INNOCECH EXPO” (Formerly known as TAIPEI INT'L INVENTION SHOW & TECHNOMART / TAIPEI INST)which is a part of the activities of the Taiwan bureau of Foreign Trade and organized by Taiwanese Organization for Foreign Trade Promotion ( TAITRA) this year from 27thto 29thof September have held the exhibition on 17.500 m2 ground with 565 participants and together with the parallel global event, e-Commerce Expo Asia, that was visited by more than 70.000 visitors.
For the official innovation contest 480 inventions were registered from 24 countries as well as one invention from Macedonia represented by our IP Agency Berin.
Invention of Viktor Nastev “Smart Bumps” have been prized with silver medal in the official rank, which is great success for this invention since it fully comply with the slogan of the exhibition slogan “ Sustainability, Innovative Inventions and Future technologies.
Apart from the official ranking two inventions by Macedonian inventots were presented at the show “ Shirt stay “ from Mr. Kristijan Popovski and Mr. Nenad Pantović and ”The water purification plants which uses bio filters” by Mr. Joti Popovski.

Within the activities of the Diplomatic Club Skopje on the occasion of 25 years since the membership of the Republic of Macedonia in the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), prof. Dr. Gjorgji Filipov has written a paper on this topic.
The paper has been published in Diplomatic Chronicle, No. 5, June 2018. In the paper are especially considered the following subjects: the creation of the legal regulation in the Republic of Macedonia as a basis for membership in WIPO, the beginnings of the presence of representatives of the Republic of Macedonia in the headquarters of WIPO in Geneva, the Institute for Protection of Industrial Property of the Republic of Macedonia and its activation of the work of WIPO.
The emphasis in the labor is given to the accession to the agreements administered by WIPO, that is, the continuity of the cooperation of the Republic of Macedonia with the World Intellectual Property Organization since 1993 until today.

On invitation by the "Europa Institute" from "University of Saarland" in Saarbrücken, Germany, prof. Dr. Gjorgji Filipov held a lecture on "Patents" on July 18, 2018. The lecture was part of the Summer School "European Competition Law & Protection of Intellectual Property Rights" (8-21 July 2018), organized for postgraduates and PhD students from the countries of Southeastern Europe and Germany.
During the lecture within three school hours prof. Dr. Filipov focused on the characteristics and challenges of the Patent Cooperation Treaty and the European Patent System, making comparisons with the patent systems of the United States, Japan, Korea and China. Within the framework of his visit to the University of Saarland, prof. Dr. Filipov was introduced to the work of the faculties and institutes of information science and computer engineering at this university (counterpart of the Faculty of Computer Science and Engineering at the University “Ss. Cyril and Methodius”).
Dr. Filipov and the Agency for Intellectual Property BERIN express their gratitude to the European Institute, prof. Dr. Thomas Gegerich (executive director of the institute), prof.
